We followed a recipe to make pancakes. We used flour, egg and milk to make the batter and mixed it up with a whisk. Then we cooked it in the pan with some butter so it didn't stick to the bottom. Then we added our topping. Some of us had lemon and sugar, some had chocolate sauce, some had raspberry sauce and some had honey. They were yummy!
We've been exploring the story and pancakes in lots of other areas of our learning today.
We had bowls and whisks in the water tray.
We also had bowls, whisks, frying pans and plates in the role play so we could practise making pancakes. We wrote shopping lists of pancake ingredients - well done to Matthew who wrote a super list and is making fantastic improvements in his writing.
We had frying pans and plates on the playdough table and some pancake playdough mats. They had challenges on like "make a pancake for the pan" and "make a topping for your pancake." We also had special playdough today - it was scented! As we used it we had to smell it and try and guess what the smell was. It's something that's yellow that you might use on Pancake Day - can you guess what it is?
On the writing table we were decorating circles of paper like pancakes and writing what we like to eat on them. We also made masks of the characters in Mr Wolf's Pancakes, wrote about the story and used some story sequencing cards.
In the maths area we did some pancake counting sheets and some size ordering. We had different pictures to do with pancakes such as lemons, frying pans and eggs that were all different sizes. We had to put them in order from biggest to smallest. Well done to Harry, Lexi, Aaron and Ruby who all did a fantastic job ordering the objects by size.
We read the story The Runaway Pancake and listened to it on the CD player with the headphones. Grace and Lucy also used the computer to start writing out the story.
Outside we used bats and beanbags to create our own pancake races. We had to all stand on the line and only move when Miss Ayres said "Go!" We had to run to the end of the netball court, but if we dropped our beanbag we had to stop and pick it up, so it was better not to go too fast! After a couple of races we started taking it in turns to be the race starter, calling "Ready, Steady, Go!"
We also used the bats and tried tossing our pancakes. We had to move the bat so the beanbag went up in the air and flipped over before catching it. It's tricky!
